What is your company’s position on sustainability, and have you set any goals or expectations for the future?

Lucas Oil is committed to advancing sustainability and innovation in the automotive industry.  We are dedicated to creating innovative, problem-solving lubricant and fuel additive products that help our customers achieve greater efficiency while reducing environmental impact.  We believe every participant in our value chain, from suppliers to end users, has a role in environmental stewardship. Our ongoing goal is to minimize waste and strive for a zero-waste-to-landfill status in our manufacturing processes.

How important is product packaging as it relates to your sustainability goals or expectations?

Product packaging is a critical feature in the marketability of a lubricant, and a vital aspect of our sustainability efforts. Lubricant packaging must provide the necessary structure and chemical resistance to ensure that the fluid maintains its quality en route to the customer.  At Lucas Oil, we’re actively exploring ways to improve packaging and/or reduce the amount of material needed to transport, distribute, and sell lubricant and fuel products. This includes developing more efficient packaging solutions that maintain product quality while reducing waste. It’s a key area of innovation and where we see potential for further collaboration and evaluation within our industry.

How do you see your membership with the NLCRC helping you to better understand sustainability risks or opportunities associated with packaging?

Our membership with NLCRC gives us access to many different stakeholders within the lubricants industry and value chain. By having the opportunity to connect with a diverse group that includes resin producers, packaging molders, brand-owners, and recyclers, we can share knowledge and best practices. This collective approach helps us navigate legislative policies and technological hurdles, inspiring further innovation to tackle the most pressing challenges in the recycling of lubricant and fuel containers.

What do you value most about your membership with NLCRC?

“We value the collaborative environment the NLCRC provides. It allows us to stay informed about the emerging legislative landscape and engage in science-based advocacy for improved and more sustainable packaging solutions across the lubricants industry.” - Dr. Ray Burns, Director of Research and Development
