NLCRC’s Mission and Vision

Simply put, the members of NLCRC are building a sustainable future for the recycling of plastic lubricant containers.

As we have written about previously, plastic waste has the potential to become a perceived global health issue. With rising social awareness around plastic waste, driven by increased research and media coverage, many are demanding immediate action –through bans on plastic, prohibitions on single-use packaging, or other legislative measures, such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

Understandably, key stakeholders in the lubricant supply chain must be part of the solution to address the problem or run the risk of being perceived as contributing to it. Given that, the National Lubricant Recycling Coalition brings brands and value chain participants together in an equal partnership to create and inspire a well-defined path forward in driving the recycling of plastic oil bottles within the U.S. to create a sustainable, economically driven end-of-life solution for plastic (HDPE) containers.

Our vision is to establish a program in the United States that recovers and recycles plastic packaging used to transport lubricants for commercial and consumer use.

Our primary goal for the first year is to develop pilot projects throughout the US to test the viability and mechanics of a market-driven program. As we learn more from these pilot projects, we will look for opportunities to begin to scale these efforts across multiple Consumer and Commercial markets.

You’re invited to check back weekly to stay up to date with the NLCRC and learn about us, how we plan to address lubricant plastic waste, and more.
