Celebrate the 4th of July with NLCRC Highlights

As we reach mid-year 2023, it is an opportunity to reflect on EPR legislation on packaging development and the NLCRC’s progress with its lubricant container recycling pilot in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Lubricant Container Recycling pilot has helped address, assess, and measure the economic and market drivers for post-consumer recovery and recycling of containers. We continue to learn more about the dynamics of different collection sites and logistics that will help us build a more sustainable and cost-effective model.

Changing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation for packaging represents an opportunity for the lubricant container industry to accelerate the transition to a more unified approach to recycling packaging. Monitoring EPR policymaking has been a focus for the NLCRC this year and has helped take proactive steps to focus on reducing the impact of packaging on the environment while helping others in the value chain adapt to changing regulatory landscape.

Collaboration is a foundational component of the NLCRC and is reflected in our member base and within the coalition’s working groups – uniting stakeholders across the lubricant container value chain, including lubricant producers, packaging manufacturers, retailers, recyclers, and resin producers.

Reflecting on this, you are invited to read our blog posts to learn about the challenges at hand, how the NLCRC is working to address them, and the legislation changes in the U.S.:

The National Lubricant Container Recycling Coalition or “NLCRC” is an industry-led technical coalition established by a committed group of industry leaders in lubricant and associated plastic packaging manufacturing, focused on establishing solutions for post-consumer recovery and recycling of plastic lubricant containers.

NLCRC members include Berry Global, Castrol, Chevron, CKS Packaging Inc., Graham Packaging, Nexus Circular, Pennzoil - Quaker State Company, Petroleum Packaging Council, Plastipak Packaging, Safety-Kleen, and Valvoline.
