NLCRC Presenting at the NUOMAAC Strategic Planning Session 2023

From the 22nd to the 24th of August, in association with Interchange Recycling, the National Used Oil Materials and Antifreeze Advisory Council (NUOMAAC) is holding its strategic planning session in Victoria, British Columbia. During this meeting, the National Lubricant Container Recycling Coalition (NLCRC) will share the purpose and vision of the NLCRC, the importance of full supply chain stakeholder engagement in addressing solutions to petroleum and automotive packaging, key activities from the NLCRC, including the US Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) timeline compliance mandates by state, and plans moving forward.

Societal concerns over plastics in our environment are influencing consumer behavior when it comes to consumer-packaged goods. These concerns have resulted in more challenging packaging demands from retail customers and is now becoming a legislative driver and regulatory requirement for all Brand Owners. Therefore, sharing knowledge and ideas with other, similar collective groups and programs, both in and outside the US, is important for the NLCRC as we look to collaborate on solutions to recycling petroleum packaging.

The NLCRC believes that no company alone can shift an industry or improve its standards when it comes to addressing the changing legislative context in the US. To be able to make bold changes within the community, we successful groups must continuously learn from others and build trust and collaboration across multiple jurisdictions and industries. Therefore, the NLCRC's participation in the NUOMAAC session helps the NLCRC learn from stakeholders in Canada and share the efforts of the NLCRC and broader packaging industry to transition to better ways of handling post-consumer waste while reducing environmental and social risks.

The National Lubricant Container Recycling Coalition or “NLCRC” is an industry-led technical coalition established by a committed group of industry leaders in lubricant and associated plastic packaging manufacturing, focused on establishing solutions for post-consumer recovery and recycling of plastic lubricant containers.

NLCRC members include Berry Global, Castrol, Chevron, CKS Packaging Inc., Graham Packaging, Nexus Circular, Pennzoil - Quaker State Company, Petroleum Packaging Council, Plastipak Packaging, Safety-Kleen, and Valvoline.
