What Are Other Recycling Coalitions Doing and How Can The NLCRC Leverage That Knowledge?
Collective action lies at the core of any civil society, and the implementation of effective and sustainable strategies for disposal management is of critical importance for the US.
There is no company alone that can fill the existing gaps within the recycling and reuse industry. To push the change that is needed, it is required that companies, manufacturers, competitors, civil society, and governmental organizations come together to share best practices and as a united front.
The US lubricant industry is taking a leadership stance on lubricant containers recycling issue with the formation of the National Lubricant Container Recycling Coalition (NLCRC). The NLCRC is an industry-led technical coalition established in the beginning of 2021 by a committed group of industry leaders in lubricant and associated plastic packaging manufacturing.
There are plastic recycling coalitions in the US, and the NLCRC can leverage knowledge to deploy more effective and efficient strategies towards recycling hard-to-degrade plastics as is the case for HDPE lubricant containers.

What are they doing? They engage in projects designed to help boost plastics recycling efforts in clinical settings of hospitals.
How can the NLCRC leverage this? Stakeholder engagement efforts: Their efforts attracted globally recognized members committed to continuous dialogue for recycling healthcare plastics.
What are they doing? They complement and coordinate activities relative to recycling, foster communications among professionals, organizations, government agencies and individuals, and promote and enhance reduction and recycling programs throughout Georgia.
How can the NLCRC leverage this? Membership diversification: Their members range from local government to universities and environmental educators.
Polypropylene Recycling Coalition from the Recycling Partnership
What are they doing? They are focused on increasing access for people to recycle polypropylene through recycling programs and stimulating an end-market of recycled polypropylene for reuse in packaging.
How can the NLCRC leverage this? Engaging every step of the recycling supply chain: Their action engages every step in the recycling supply chain: from corporations that manufacture products and packaging to local governments charged with recycling, to industry end markets, haulers, material recovery facilities, and converters.
What are they doing? They connect entrepreneurs, industry experts, global consumer goods companies, retailers, financial institutions, and municipalities to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions via materials innovation, advanced recycling technologies, supply chain optimization and landfill diversion.
How can the NLCRC leverage this? Membership diversification and investment in recycling technologies: They work collaboratively with policymakers, consumers, businesses, and others to encourage sustainable systems, and invest in recovery infrastructure and advanced recycling technologies to capture plastic waste.
